Tree Hugging... It's Not Weird!

Date: February 20, 2024

Oh trees, they really are wonderful! Afterall, we wouldn't be able to survive without them, they are what allow us to exist here, so why is it often considered 'weird' to want to give one a hug?

The words 'Tree Hugger' has been used many times in a derogatory manner and now I'm hitting back, because there is nothing wrong with tree hugging and I for one am a proud tree hugger!

Not only is it a way to show grattitude to Mother Earth for all that she does for us (her rampages aside) but it has been proven that tree hugging can have it's benefits, especially for your wellbeing!

When you hug a tree, a hormone called Oxytocin is released and this horomone is fabulous because it is responsible for allowing you to feel calm, it allows emotional bonding, it is the hormone of love and trust and it simply just gives you that nice, fuzzy, warm feeling!

It isn't just Oxytocin that is released either, when you hug that tree the hormones serotonin and dopamine also want in with this experience which then results in you feeling happy as they are the hormones in control of happiness.

So that's enough scientific brain evidence to why hugging trees is good, now let's talk connection! When you touch a tree, it really brings to life that you are at one with nature, you are not jusing seeing nature, but you become a part of it, making the whole experience meaningful and the effect this can have on anxiety is huge!

Now for my final reason as to why tree hugging is a must and that is energy. I am a big believer in energy and it flows through us all, it flows through all living things including my beloved trees and plants. So when you wrap your arms around a tree, energies are connected through energetic vibrations which means you feel the trees vibrations, which in my nerdy eyes, is amazing!

So there we have it, hugging tree's isnt weird, it infact means you are at one with nature, it means you are allowing yourself to feel those happy hormones and you are allowing yourself to share your energy. I hope after reading this blog post, you reach in and find your inner tree hugger and help us to normalise the hugging of trees!

Happy tree hugging readers!
