Because when you care for yourself you are better able to parent your child/children. You can’t give what you haven’t got and quite often Mammas put their own self care at the bottom of the list.
“Self-care might seem like a luxury to parents, but evidence shows that it is crucial to the wellbeing of children. If you are not regularly recharging, it is much more difficult to be sensitive and responsive to children’s needs.”
When my daughter was young all my energy went into trying to be the best Mum I could be.
Most of the time my self care cup was empty.
In truth, I felt overwhelmed and needed some support.
Instead of seeking help, I battled on.
I wish I had been kinder to myself and spotted how much my daughter would have benefitted from a re-energised Mum.
Have you ever felt overwhelmed like this?
When most of your time is spent caring for your children and family, it’s easy for mamas to forget about themselves and what they may need.
The truth is ..
You can't afford to not look after yourself if you want to be your best self for your child.
I’ve been listening carefully to Mums who come, with their Early Years children, to my Forest School at Yolk Farm.
It has reminded me that being a Mum is tough and got me wondering what I could offer as support.
I have decided to create an outdoor place in nature, just for Mammas, to spend a couple of hours on themselves.
It is a trial event so I am learning too. I will listen and get better because I want this to genuinely make a difference to the Mammas that attend.
