Delicious Chocolate Orange Camp Fire Cake Recipe!

Date: February 20, 2024

Easter is the perfect excuse to indulge yourself in sweet treats, but I have already shared with you the legend that is the S’more, so today I thought I’d introduce you to another campfire delicacy… the chocolate orange campfire cake …it just sounds divine!

Now, I’d be lying if I said I was a campfire culinary expert, I’m really not and I have yet to try these yummy-looking things myself but after scouring the internet for the perfect recipe, I am looking forward to discovering this treat for myself and I hope that this recipe also brings you a little bit of heaven too!

So, let’s get to it, starting with what you need:

A Campfire
Tongs- to put on/take off the oranges
Tinfoil
Clean surfaces to work on- I’d recommend chopping boards
Spoons (enough for once each)
Sharp Knife
Chocolate Brownie Mix
Cocktail stick/skewer
Soap and Warm Water- ready for hand washing
and of course oranges!

Before you begin:

Create your campfire to cook on, I suggest you do this 30 minutes before baking as the chocolate oranges will cook on the embers, not the flames.

Make up enough brownie mix for your party, instructions and serving sizes will be on the packet. Alternatively, you can make your own brownie mix! I will attach some recipes for this at the end of the post.

Carefully slice the top off each orange- making sure you keep these safe to one side.

The method:

1. Get ready to cook by using soap and water to clean your hands. Be prepared that this activity can get very messy!

2. Now it’s time to scoop on the orange using a spoon. You don’t necessarily have to throw again the insides! These can be eaten or strained to make fresh orange juice… yummy!

3. Next, spoon the brownie mixture into your orange until it is half full! Don’t overfill your orange… this may lead to a disaster as the mixture expands as it cooks, we don’t want any brownie explosions!

4. Put the lid back on to your orange and then wrap the orange in tin foil.

5. Using tongs, place the oranges into the embers of the fire.

6. Bake the orange for 10 minutes, then use the tongs to turn the oranges over to cook both sides evenly.

7. To check the orange is cooked, hold it with the tongs and then press a cocktail stick or skewer into the center. If the stick/skewer is dry- the orange is ready! If not, leave the orange to cook for a further few minutes and check again.

8. Once the orange is cooked, restrain yourself! Do not dive in straight away, it will need time to cool down! Once cool enough, use your spoon, dig in and enjoy!
